Digital Transparency Index

Current Index for Congress

The Digital Transparency Index is a way to indicate how active legislators in Congress are in the online world. It's currently comprised of several factors including a legislator's web presence, whether or not they syndicate content, and how active they are on Twitter and YouTube.

The image above represents a snapshot of how digitally transparent Congress is right now. Each legislator is assigned a color from red to green. Red means they have little to no digital transparency, and green means the legislator is extremely digitally transparent. When you line up all the current legislators from least transparent to most transparent, the above image gives you a sense of how inactive Congress is online. If all legislators were digitally transparent, then the whole bar would be green. If they all stopped engaging online, the image would turn solid red.

You can scroll over the image and see if you can find where your legislators are in the list, or check out the comparison page to see what the Index looks like for smaller subsections of Congress.
